About Jamie Kriel, LPC
Oftentimes, when we experience complex trauma, we feel uncertain of our own identity and struggle to understand ourselves and the world around us. We may bumble our way through life feeling like nothing more than an empty shell of ourselves. When we finally seek therapy, practitioners often pathologize us. This leaves us feeling misunderstood and stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of progress followed by a whiplash of regression.
Making matters worse, systemic oppression plays an integral part in masking the true source for some of our pain and perpetuates further cycles of abuse. In essence, these systems reinforce feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and powerlessness and the belief that it’s impossible to heal.
Who I Work with & the Desired Outcome:
I partner alongside brave individuals who seek healing from complex trauma related to childhood trauma, spiritual abuse, & purity culture. We dive deep to creatively dismantle old belief systems that no longer fit, cultivate wholeness within ourselves, and build healthy relationships and community.
While it takes courage to uncover our deepest wounds, doing so gives us unimaginable gifts that transform our lives. As a therapist, my goal is to cultivate a safe space for clients to be fully seen, heard, and understood. We use the space to uncover those hidden gifts and collaborate to understand how to use them to find healing.
My Approach to Therapy:
My work primarily focuses on using creative expression, mindfulness, and active imagination. These techniques help clients foster a deeper understanding of themselves and a connection to their inner wisdom. Their inner wisdom, ultimately, becomes the guide on their healing journey.
How I Got Here:
My passion for therapy grew during my own healing which required me to dive deeply to discover my true self. I vividly remember feeling like my mind was a massive nest of tangled wires. The more I tried to unravel it, the more tangled it became.
At some point in my work, I cycled through progress followed by intense regressions, and I felt stuck. It wasn’t until I started to incorporate more creative practices (ie: art, active imaginations, & spirituality, etc.) that I started to see deep healing occur.
Although this journey has been painful and is far from finished, the life I’ve created is far more pleasurable than I could have ever imagined. It has given me some of the greatest gifts, including marrying my wonderful wife. I believe the same can be true for you if you choose to love yourself enough to do the work.
For Fun:
On a personal level, when I’m not working, you’ll typically find me in a philosophical conversation with my beautiful wife, tending to my fur-babies (3 cats and 1 dog), hyper fixating on some new passion project (because all the shiny things), creating art, scrolling through TikTok, or listening to music, a podcast, or audiobook (sometimes all of the above at the same time… the joys of ADHD. haha).
